Indigo Bunting

The Indigo Bunting (Passerina cyanea) breeds in South East Canada and in East and Central United States. In winters it is found from Mexico to Colombia, in weedy fields, savanna edges, low second growth and semi-open forests. Adults are 12 cm (4 inches) in height and 13.5 g in weight.

This small bird in winters in above tawny-brown, bellow buffy-brown, shading to white on belly. Shoulders and underparts are more or less mixed with blue. In breeding season this bird is deep blue, above greenish, and tinged with violet in head and breast. It feeds on small insects, berries and seeds.

Painted Bunting

The Painted Bunting (Passerina ciris) breeds in USA and Mexico and in winters inhabits from Mexico and Florida to west Panama. It forages low amid dense cover of brushy second growth, overgrown pastures, and high grass. Its measures are 13 cm (5 inches) in height and 15 g in weight.

Adults have the top and sides of head, neck and breast brilliant violet-blue. Its back is yellow-green, rump and upper tail coverts pinkish-red, and shoulders violet. Rest of underparts bright red and legs dusky. It eats some insects, fruits and seeds.

Dickcissel

The Dickcissel (Spiza americana) breeds in some parts of United States and Canada, and in winters lives from Mexico to South America. It is found in rice-growing areas, in favors open, and grassy areas. It is 15 cm (6 inches) in height and 28 g in height.

Adult’s head is grayish, with the crown tingled with olive and streaked with black. Rest of upperparts pale brown, and back streaked with black. Tail and wings dusky, center of breast bright yellown, and brown legs. It eats seeds
